State Capitol Exhibit Focuses on History of Child Care and Development in California

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senator Liz Figueroa (D-Fremont), chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus, announced the opening of the Women’s History Month Exhibit, A Century of Child Care and Development in California, in the second floor Rotunda of the California State Capitol.

ASSEMBLY CELEBRATES GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY

Sacramento—Assemblymember Carol Liu (La Canada-Flintridge), Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus, presented a resolution, ACR 9, declaring today as Girls and Women in Sports Day. The theme of this year’s celebration is “More than a Game.”

“Participation in sports is truly more than a game. Athletics have a tremendous positive impact on the physical and psychological health of young women, which leads to increased success in educational and career goals,” said Liu. “We need to celebrate and encourage more women, both young and old, to embrace sports.”

Eighty women, representing 79 Assembly districts and the Lieutenant Governor’s office, were honored at a special ceremony on the Assembly Floor. One of the Legislature’s largest events, the celebration honors women who have made significant contributions to their communities.

Women’s Caucus announces Chair and Vice-Chair

SACRAMENTO — The Legislative Women, the largest caucus in the state Legislature, installed its new leadership Wednesday evening, naming Assemblywoman Patty Berg as chair and Sen. Gloria Negrete McLeod as vice chair.

“I am deeply honored to be the chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus,” said Berg. “California is fortunate to have so many talented and dedicated women in the Legislature, and I am very fortunate that these women have chosen me for a position of leadership.”

SACRAMENTO — Assemblywoman Patty Berg begins a three-day lobbying trip to Washington D.C. Monday, where she will meet with Congressional leaders on a range of issues affecting California.

Berg, D-Eureka, will join a legislative team headed by Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez. The Assembly delegation is expected to meet with U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, as well as a range of congressional committee chairs.
