SACRAMENTO – California Legislative Women’s Caucus (LWC) Chair Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) and Vice Chair Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), in partnership with Gov. Gavin Newsom, announced the introduction of new abortion rights legislation today, responding to Arizona’s sweeping ban on reproductive care. An urgency measure, SB 233 would allow Arizona reproductive care providers to immediately perform abortion services in California under an expedited medical licensing process.

Legislative Women’s Caucus Announces 2024 Priority Bill Package

SACRAMENTO – The California Legislative Women’s Caucus (LWC), a bipartisan caucus made up of California’s 50 women Senators and Assemblymembers, today announced its 2024 priority bill package — 15 bills authored exclusively by women legislators and selected by a vote of the full caucus membership.

This year’s bills address critical issues facing women and children such as women’s economic security, hospital maternity ward closures, quality early care and education for California’s children age 0 to 4, reproductive healthcare, and issues related to sexual assault. 

CA Legislature Approves LWC Leaders’ Urgency Bill in Response to Arizona Abortion Ban

SACRAMENTO – The California state Senate today approved SB 233, urgency legislation that would allow Arizona reproductive care providers to immediately perform abortion services for Arizonans who travel to California. SB 233, which was approved by the state Assembly last week, is authored by Legislative Women’s Caucus (LWC) Chair Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) and Vice Chair Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) and is sponsored by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Sacramento, CA – Governor Gray Davis today signed into law SB 1894, authored by Senator Martha Escutia (D - Montebello). The bill would require the Department of Health Services to restore a total of $750,000 to five domestic violence shelters that lost their usual DHS grants through no fault of their own, due to a change in the department’s funding priorities in 2000.
