SACRAMENTO – California Legislative Women’s Caucus Chair Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) and Vice Chair Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) celebrated the California State Assembly’s passage today of Senate Constitutional Amendment 10 by President pro Tempore Toni Atkins. SCA 10, which will enshrine the right to abortion and contraception in the California Constitution, now goes to the November 2022 statewide ballot.

SACRAMENTO – The bipartisan and bicameral California Legislative Women’s Caucus elected Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) as its Chair and Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters). Their two-year terms will commence on December 5, 2022, the current chair and vice chair will continue to lead the Caucus until then.

Gov. Newsom Signs Legislation Supporting California Legislative Women’s Caucus Priorities

Governor Gavin Newsom today joined the California Legislative Women’s Caucus to sign legislation aimed at further protecting and advancing the rights and opportunities for women and working families in California, leading with an equity lens. The bills signed today included six of the eight bills sent to the Governor for his signature. 

 

Women’s Caucus Achieves Benchmark toward Gender Parity, on Pace to Record 50 Seats in California Legislature

With the gains in this year’s election, California will achieve a record number of women members in the State Legislature and is close to reaching gender parity, a goal that the Legislative Women’s Caucus has been actively working toward since 2016. According to the most recent updates from the California Secretary of State’s Office, women hold or are winning 50 legislative seats statewide and have already outstripped the current record total of 39 seats in the state Assembly and Senate.
