Sacramento, CA – Governor Gray Davis today signed into law SB 1894, authored by Senator Martha Escutia (D - Montebello). The bill would require the Department of Health Services to restore a total of $750,000 to five domestic violence shelters that lost their usual DHS grants through no fault of their own, due to a change in the department’s funding priorities in 2000.

The event provided the latest information on prevention, detection and cure of gender-related cancers, as well as healthy living, diet and emotional well being.

OROPEZA ‘TITLE IX COMPLIANCE’ BILL SIGNED

AB 2295 addresses gender equity in California’s athletic programs

Sacramento – Assemblymember Jenny Oropeza (D-Long Beach) announced that AB 2295 was signed into law by Governor Davis today. This legislation will study athletic programs throughout California’s public schools and the rate of compliance with Title IX. AB 2295 cleared both the Assembly and the Senate with bipartisan support.

GOVERNOR SIGNS ESCUTIA BILL ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAMS

Sacramento, CA – Governor Gray Davis has signed into law SB 1895, a domestic violence bill authored by Senator Martha Escutia (D - Montebello). The bill would require the Office of Criminal Justice Planning, one of two state agencies that funds domestic violence shelters and programs, to consult with an advisory group of domestic violence experts in administering OCJP grants and programs.
