SACRAMENTO – Assembly Speaker John A. Perez unveiled a plan today to preserve child care subsidies for low-income parents that were formally receiving cash-assistance but are now working. The Legislature adopted a 2010-2011 budget that preserved the funding, but then-Governor Schwarzenegger line-item vetoed the funds.

Evans to Receive “Defender of Justice Award” - Will Be the First Woman Bestowed the Award by the Judicial Council of California

Sacramento - State Senator Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) will receive the Stanley Mosk Defender of Justice Award from the Judicial Council of California for her strong support of the California judicial branch of government. She is the first woman ever to be honored with the award.   Evans will accept the award at a 4 p.m. ceremony Monday in San Francisco at the Ronald M. George State Office Complex.

Assemblymember Yamada Holds Joint Informational Hearing to Examine Economic Challenges Affecting Older Women -- Fiscal Forecast for Older Women: Poor

Assemblymember Mariko Yamada, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care, and Assemblymember Jim Beall, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Human Services, held a joint hearing in Los Angeles to examine the economic challenges facing older women. The December 9th hearing covered various topics including the life-long gender wage gap, historical gender discrimination, and longer life-spans that can threaten older women's fiscal well-being and retirement.
