Until recently, there were not many resources that families could turn to for information and help, and they were left with a . Mothers are often the researchers and persistent advocates for their children: Where do I find the best resources?  How will my child get into a school with educators that understand the complexities of autism? 

Evans Introduces Bill to Protect Victim Services Funding - Programs Serve Victims of Domestic, Sexual Violence

SACRAMENTO – Senator Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) today announced the introduction of Senate Joint Resolution 20.  The bill will call upon the U.S. Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and ensure sustainability of vital state and federal programs designed to keep women and families safe from violence and abuse.

 

Assemblywoman Fiona Ma, Victims of Domestic Violence and Advocates Join to Bring Justice to Incarcerated Victims of Domestic Violence

(Sacramento) - Assemblywoman Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco and San Mateo Counties) joined Brenda Clubine, a survivor who spent 26 years behind bars for defending her life against her abuser, Senator Noreen Evans, Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus, Tara Shabazz from the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence and other advocates this morning to advocate for AB 593 and AB 1593 known as the “Sin by Silence” bills. Shortly after, both bills passed out of the Senate floor.

Former Assemblymember Barbara Alby passes away

It is with sadness we announce that a former member of the Legislative Women’s Caucus has passed away.  Former Assemblymember Barbara Alby was the 57th woman elected to the State Legislature and we remember her with fondness.  She was a tireless advocate for the safety of women and children and her legislative legacy is still felt and appreciated by families today.  Below is an article from the Sacramento Bee that provides great insight into Ms. Alby’s political career.

What's the Gender-Based Wage Gap Where You Live?

An unprecedented analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data released today by the National Partnership for Women and Families shows that the gender-based wage gap affects women in nearly every corner of the country. In 97 percent of congressional districts — 423 out of 435 districts — the median yearly pay for women is less than the median yearly pay for men. This is the first-ever analysis of these data by congressional district, providing a unique opportunity for women, families and lawmakers to consider the local impact of disparities in pay.
