SACRAMENTO – California Legislative Women’s Caucus Chair Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) and Vice Chair Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters) released the following joint statement today regarding the creation of the 20-state Reproductive Freedom Alliance:

“With abortion rights and the right to necessary and quality reproductive health care under increasing assault, we applaud the 20 Governors for launching the Reproductive Freedom Alliance. The Alliance is not only welcome news, it’s absolutely essential in the ongoing fight to protect and strengthen access to abortion, contraception and necessary reproductive care for all Americans, and especially the 170 million Americans who live in the 20 states now part of the alliance, including California.

“The Reproductive Freedom Alliance will enable California to more effectively collaborate with other states on best practices regarding access to abortion and contraception, including legislation, legal protection and budgetary actions, and to respond in unison to future attacks on reproductive rights, including access to medication abortion.

“As leaders of California’s Legislative Women’s Caucus, we stand ready to work with Governor Newsom, and all of the other states in the alliance, and will double-down our efforts to ensure that California is a safe haven for people seeking an abortion and for those providing reproductive services, so that we remain a national beacon for reproductive justice.”
