SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino), Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus and Assemblywoman Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara), Vice Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus issued the following statement following legislative approval of the 2019-20 state budget earlier today:

“As legislators and leaders in communities across California, the Women’s Caucus is extremely pleased with the important gains we have long prioritized in this coming budget.  California’s budget values our childcare system with an additional one billion dollars to benefit our youngest learners and the caregivers who are their earliest educators.  From childcare and preschool access, to systems development and expanded facilities and training, all will benefit California’s children, working families and providers.”

“Several key aspects of the Women’s Caucus’ priority legislation have fiscal components deeply rooted in this budget, including childcare workforce development and CalWORKs alignment. In addition, historic work in health and workplace equity by colleagues are also highlighted in this budget, including increasing Paid Family Leave from six to eight weeks and repealing the tax on menstrual products and diapers.”

“The Women’s Caucus is excited to continue working with our legislative colleagues and the Administration to implement these important policies in the months and years ahead.  We remain steadfast in our decades-long fight for the gender and economic equity that women and families deserve.”
