SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens), Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus and Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino), Vice Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus released the following statement regarding Governor Brown’s proposed budget:

“We are happy to see that Governor Brown gave a modest increase in funding for the only priority of our caucus, as he previously committed: early childhood education.  Nonetheless, we have a long way to go given that we are currently serving less than 15% of the kids who need childcare, as well as still $500 million short of pre-recession funding levels.  We will continue to advocate for California’s women, children and families, and seek a final budget that demonstrates we value our future leaders and workforce. Children learning keeps parents working.”
