(Sacramento)—Members of the California Legislative Women’s Caucus (CLWC) today released a video ahead of Judge Neil Gorsuch’s upcoming appointment hearings to the Supreme Court appealing not to be let down by President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court.

The appeal underscores the intention that California’s female legislators will pursue at a pivotal time with new healthcare legislation posing a significant threat to women’s rights across the nation. In their message to Judge Gorsuch, the diverse group of women calls for unfettered control of their own bodies, gender equity and equality, economic opportunity, and clean air and water.

“We will be fearless. We will represent our grandmothers, our mothers, our sisters and our daughters,” said Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia, Chair of the CLWC. “The Women’s Caucus is not backing down and neither will the millions of women around the world who are ready to fight for their rights and control their own destiny. As women in positions of leadership, we have a responsibility to represent—and be a voice of change—for those who have been silenced or ignored.  Even if it is nearly 100 years after women earned the right to vote.”

“This is a national conversation and women will not be excluded from the discussion, especially when our rights are at stake,” said Senator Connie M. Leyva, Vice Chair of the CLWC.  “Protecting vital services and empowering women to make their own decisions about their own bodies should not be an uphill battle, but if it is, we will be prepared.”

The video ends with the Caucus strongly advising Gorsuch to make decisions that will empower and engage the 162 million women who will be directly affected by his rulings and whose voices cannot and will not be ignored.
