SACRAMENTO, CA – The Women’s Foundation of California presented Assemblymember Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) with the Champion Award yesterday for fighting to protect critical safety net programs for women and girls while she served as chair of the Assembly Budget Committee and presided over the Budget Conference Committee process.

“I am truly touched,” said Evans.  “Last year, California weathered the worst financial storm since the Great Depression and the governor tried to throw women and children out of the lifeboat first.  I pushed back against such cuts.  When times get tough, our message to women and children can’t be ‘sorry, you are on your own.’”

Evans was honored during a legislative reception dedicated to celebrating outstanding leadership in protecting the health, rights and well-being of women and girls in our state.

In a letter to Evans notifying her about this award, President and CEO of the Women’s Foundation of California Judy Patrick said, “You have been an unparalleled champion for women, girls and their communities in your fight to protect the programs and services on which millions depend.”

Senator Denise Ducheny (D-San Diego), Chair of the Senate Budget Committee, was also honored with the same award.  Further information about the Women’s Foundation of California is available at http://www.womensfoundca.org.
