Sacramento, CA – The California Legislative Women’s Caucus hosted the 19th annual “Woman of the Year” celebration on Monday, March 14, 2005. Eighty women, representing 79 Assembly districts and the Lieutenant Governor’s office, were honored at a special ceremony on the Assembly Floor. One of the Legislature’s largest events, the celebration honors women who have made significant contributions to their communities.

“This special event gives the Legislature an opportunity to highlight the extraordinary women in this state and their accomplishments,” said Assemblymember Carol Liu (D-La Cañada Flintridge), who is the Chair of the Legislative Women’s Caucus. “It is our way to show our appreciation for their contributions to government, business, and the community.”

Following the ceremony, honorees and their Assemblymembers joined First Lady Maria Shriver at a special reception at the California State History Museum. This month the museum will feature a special exhibit on extraordinary California women, including photographs and biographies of the 2005 Woman of the Year honorees.
